Maryland Farms Look For Boost From Buy Local Week

EDMONSTON, Md. (WUSA) -- Marylanders are encouraged to visit local farm stands and produce markets to take part in Buy Local Week across the Free State.

Thousands of people signed up for the "Buy Local Challenge," committing to buy at least one locally grown piece of produce each day this week. The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission estimates if every home in Maryland spent $12 a week during July and August, it would put $200 million back into the state's farm economy.

Shots fired at Columbia townhouse; no one injured

 

Howard County police are investigating an incident in Columbia where shots were fired at a townhouse this 

weekend. No one was injured.  

 

Police responded to the 5700 block of Cedar Lane in Columbia on Saturday at 2 a.m. for a report of shots fired. 

A 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter were sleeping when unknown suspects fired shots at the

The Citi Open is a WTA International Level event, a designation for only one of three tournaments in the United States.  The event will feature some of the world’s top female tennis players representing a diverse range of nationalities including 17 of the top 100 tennis players in the world.

WHS Receives Grey Muzzle Organization Grant

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) has been recognized for its commitment to improving the lives of senior dogs through a grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization. The $4,000 grant will allow WHS to expand its senior companion dog program to increase adoptions of older canines entering its two Washington, D.C. shelters.
