WHS Alumni Update: June 8, 2012 | Community Spirit
One-year-old foster pup Mocha found a forever home this week! We are so grateful to Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and his DC staff, our first official Congressional foster office, for taking great care of Mocha and supporting our mission. We love our incredible growing team of life-saving foster volunteers!
Tom, formerly Pie
“Last summer I helped cat Pie find an adoptive family in College Park, MD. They have renamed him Tom because he looks like the 'Tom' in Tom and Jerry. Pie quickly became friends with the couple's dog Sydney, and here are the two of them lying together on the bed.”

Spiro, a New York Avenue adoption center alumni, joined a recent PACK run!
“This is the adorable, cuddly, and affectionate lapdog who at one time wanted nothing but to be with me 24/7 and was extremely vocal when I had to work (at home) and she had to be in another room…I loved her from the start as much as she did me and so we stuck it out using expert trainers and lots of positive reinforcement. Gretel has since received the Canine Good Citizen award and is a certified pet therapy dog. Tomorrow we go to the annual picnic for Fairfax County. I just taught her to ‘sit pretty’ to show off for her friends there. It took all of three days! Here she is calm and relaxed waiting for her momma – a big accomplishment compared to last year. ”
