National Plug In Day is Sept 23 in Manassas

Northern Virginia’s National Plug In Day event will be Sunday, September 23 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at The Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William Street, Manassas, Virginia.  The event will give you the chance to learn more about electric vehicles (EV) via interaction with private owners and local EV dealers, as well as through vehicle test drives. The event will feature EVs from Sheehy Nissan (Leaf), Malloy Mitsubishi (i-MiEV), and Miller Toyota (Plug In Prius). 

Who Should Attend

EV Owners: Come mingle and swap stories with other owners.

Prospective EV Buyers: Learn more about EVs through interaction with owners and dealers and stick around for a test drive.

Curiosity Seekers: See what all the buzz is about and find out why people are switching to electric.

County Re-Opens Cooling Centers for Residents

It’s going to be another hot one today with temperatures expected to rise to 100 degrees.

Prince George’s County will re-open seven air-conditioned cooling centers throughout the County for a second day to help residents beat the heat.

 

Cooling centers open for Seniors at the following locations:  

·         New Carrolton Nutrition Center, 6016 Princess Garden Parkway, Lanham, MD (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)  

·         Camp Springs Senior Activity Center, 6420 Allentown Road, Camp Springs, MD (9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

County Residents Take Pre-Cautionary Measures During First Heat Wave

Upper Marlboro, MD – As Prince George’s County prepares for its first heat wave,  residents are encouraged to use caution and common sense as the National Weather Service  advises temperatures in excess of  90○ or higher with the potential heat index reaching into the 100○s.  The Office of Homeland Security warns that extreme heat can be dangerous and even deadly, if citizens do not take precautionary measures to protect themselves and their families.

Pepco Providing 3,000 Free Trees to Maryland and DC Customers

 

From Bob Hainey: In its second year as an Arbor Day Foundation partner, Pepco is providing 3,000 free trees to customers in Maryland and the District of Columbia through the Energy-Saving Trees program. One thousand trees will be available for each Pepco jurisdiction in the District of Columbia, and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland. Launched as a pilot initiative in 2011, the Energy-Saving Trees program conserves energy and reduces household electricity bills through strategic tree planting.
