LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County Sheriff's Office authorities say a man was arrested in Georgia for a murder that occurred in Landover, Md. in 1989.
Authorities say Georgia State Patrol officers arrested 46-year-old Wayne Gilgeours on Oct. 16 on a warrant charging him for first degree murder in the 1100 block of Nalley Road in Landover. Police say that 22-year-old Philbert Jones was suffering from a gunshot wound on May 23, 1989. He later died of his injuries.
Detectives believe the motive for the shooting was drug related, according to police.
On Oct. 16, Gilgeours was pulled over for a traffic violation, according to sheriff's office authorities, and officers found that he had a fradulent ID. Police say that the name on the ID was "Leonard Rhule." A mobile fingerprint scanner later identified the driver as Gilgeours and a records check showed he was wanted in Maryland.
Gilgeours was extradited to Prince George's County on Halloween.
