National Plug In Day is Sept 23 in Manassas

Northern Virginia’s National Plug In Day event will be Sunday, September 23 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at The Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William Street, Manassas, Virginia.  The event will give you the chance to learn more about electric vehicles (EV) via interaction with private owners and local EV dealers, as well as through vehicle test drives. The event will feature EVs from Sheehy Nissan (Leaf), Malloy Mitsubishi (i-MiEV), and Miller Toyota (Plug In Prius). 

Who Should Attend

EV Owners: Come mingle and swap stories with other owners.

Prospective EV Buyers: Learn more about EVs through interaction with owners and dealers and stick around for a test drive.

Curiosity Seekers: See what all the buzz is about and find out why people are switching to electric.

County Council Approves Change To Ride On Fares In Md.

Ride on fares have changed in Montgomery county. Beginning July 1, the following transit rates will go into effect. Check below to see if you will be affected:

Ride On cash fare or token - $1.80 (New)

Ride On fare paid with SmarTrip Card - $1.60 (New)

Route 70 cash fare or token - $4.00 (New)

Metrorail-to-Ride On bus transfer with SmarTrip - $1.10 (New)

Local bus-to-Route 70 transfer - $2.05 (New)

Ride On Monthly Pass - $45 (New)

Boarding Route 70 with weekly or monthly pass or Montgomery College ID with sticker  - $2.05 (New)

Senior* (except from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, when free) with cash fare or token - $0.90 (New)

Alexandria Seaport Foundation receives $50K grant at Economic Club event with guest Warren Buffett

Buffett and David Rubenstein, The Economic Club of Washington, DC's President, are among business leaders at 25th anniversary celebration on June 5th where 10 community organizations, including the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, received a total of $500,000 in grants

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation (ASF), which offers disadvantaged youth and young adults a paid, work-based apprentice program in boat building that prepares participants for careers in the building trades, received a $50,000 grant from The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. at its 25th anniversary on June 5th at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) announces that the County’s TheBus and Call-A-Bus services will not be operational on Monday, May 28, 2012, in observance of Memorial Day.  All transit services will resume normal operations on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Charter Flights from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to Cuba Starts March 21

The following information was sent to us by Jonathan Dean: 

Island Travel & Tours, Ltd. announced today that nonstop air charter service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Havana, Cuba will begin on March 21, 2012.  The flights are scheduled to depart BWI Marshall Airport at 3:00 p.m.  Tickets for the service are now available from Island Travel & Tours. 

The weekly service begins shortly before the scheduled visit to Cuba by Pope Benedict XVI.  The Vatican recently announced that the Pope would visit Cuba from March 26-28.

Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Commuter Bus 

routes 203, 204 and 205 began service today along the 18.8 mile Inter County Connector (ICC) toll road. 

The three new commuter bus routes will provide service between I-270/370 in Montgomery County and 

I-95/Rt.1 in Prince George’s County. The first two weeks of service will be provided free of charge,
